Alienware laptops for gaming

Launched in 1996, Alienware quickly made a name for itself by selling high-powered gaming PCs. Are Alienware laptops for gaming? And what is the price of Alienware laptop. It didn’t hurt that it had a great name and logo for marketing — the “gray alien” theme helped the company stand out. In 2006, one of the biggest PC makers, Dell, announced it was buying Alienware. Many people assumed that Dell would quickly absorb Alienware’s hardcore gaming PC style, but instead it has been the other way around.

Alienware has not only thrived, but expanded its product lineup under Dell, and its high-end hardware designs have influenced Dell’s more mainstream PCs. In 2009, Alienware launched its first PC gaming laptop. Ever since, it has offered gamers high-end hardware and features in a more portable form factor. Here’s a look at the current Alienware laptops for gaming you can buy for the best notebook gaming  experience.

Alienware Area-51m – trending gaming laptops

If you want a gaming laptop with almost no hardware compromises and don’t mind it being on the heavy side, the recently launched Alienware Area-51m is perfect. This 8.54-pound gaming laptop is the first using the company’s new “Alienware Legend” design, ditching the sharp edges in older Alienware laptops in favor of a more rounded and smoother shape. The notebook is made of a strong and smooth magnesium alloy, which lets it pack in lots of powerful parts while still not going too overboard on the weight.

The Alienware Area-51m, one of the Alienware laptops for gaming, has a big 17.3-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, and it supports Nvidia’s G-Sync screen tech, so gaming should be a smooth experience without screen tearing. Speaking of which, this notebook comes with NVIDIA’s latest GPUs, including its GeForce RTX 2060 with 6GB of GDDR6 RAM, the GeForce  RTX 2070 with 8GB of GDDR6 RAM, or the very powerful GeForce RTX 2080, again with 8GB of GDDR6 RAM. You can even connect the company’s Alienware Graphics Amplifier to the notebook, which allows it to access desktop GPU cards from either NVIDIA or rival AMD.

In addition, the Alienware Area-51m is the first laptop with Intel’s ninth generation Core processors inside, with your choice of the 6-core i7 8700 at up to 4.6Ghz, the 8-core i7 9700k at up to 4.9Ghz, or the super hardcore i9 9900k with speeds up to 5.0Ghz. The notebook has also been designed to be upgradable for both its CPU and GPU, along with its RAM (up to 64GB) and onboard storage (up to two 2TB SSDs and one 1TB hybrid hard drive).

Despite all that hardware, you don’t have to worry about the laptop getting very hot. The Alienware Area-51m laptop has the company’s new Cryo-Tech 2.0 technology, which includes a dual intake and dual exhaust airflow design, combined with a high voltage liquid crystal polymer fan to keep the notebook cool and quiet.

If you want to take the Alienware Area-51m on the road, but don’t need it to handle games, the notebook adds a smaller power brick so it won’t be as heavy for travel. If you want to have the full gaming experience, you can swap it out for the larger power brick.

We haven’t even gotten into the notebook’s TacX keyboard, with its customizable RBG LED lighting, or its Tobii eye-tracking technology which lets you use your eyes to control games, or its 2.5Gbps Ethernet network port or that it comes in your choice of “Lunar Light” or “Dark Side of the Moon” colors. If you want to get this powerful notebook PC, be prepared to pay up. The starting price of the Alienware Area-51m is $1,949.99, and it goes much higher if you order it with the faster CPUs and GPUs. The price of this Alienware laptop is $3K approx.

Alienware m17 – popular laptop for gaming

If the Alienware Area-51m is out of your price range, or you want a lighter gaming laptop, the Alienware m17 may be for you . It is another one of the Alienware laptops for gaming. Like the Area-51m, the m17 notebook has a big 17.3-inch display, with your choice of either a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution or a UHD 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. However, at 5.73 pounds it is the lightest 17-inch notebook that Alienware has ever made.

Inside the Alienware m17, you will find the older, but still plenty fast Intel eighth generation i5, i7, or i9 processors, along with support for up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of onboard storage. Like the Area-51m, you can order the Alienware m17 with the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, 2070, 2080 GPUs. It supports the Cryo-Tech 2.0 technology for PC cooling and also supports the Alienware Graphics Amplifier for adding desktop GPUs.

All in all, the Alienware m17 still packs quite a punch for portable hardcore PC gamers, especially with the latest NVIDIA GPUs inside. While not as pricy as the Area-51m, the Alienware m17 is still quite expensive, starting price of this Alienware laptop $1,249.99, with higher prices as you put in more powerful parts.

Alienware m15 – best buy gaming laptop

The Alienware m15 is the smallest laptop the company currently makes, but it’s still a high-end powerhouse. It has mostly the same hardware options as the bigger m17, including the same choices for Intel CPUs, Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs, RAM, and storage. However, the Alienware m15 crams all of that into a smaller case with a 15.6-inch display, with either a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution or a UHD 3,840 x 2,160 resolution.

All of that goodness comes in a laptop weighing 4.78 pounds. While not exactly in the “thin and light” laptop category, the Alienware m15, one of the Alienware laptops for gaming, is definitely more transportable on a long trip than its two bigger brothers. The m15 can also be bought with a 90W battery, which is supposed to last up to 17 hours on a single charge. While we doubt the notebook will last that long with a lot of heavy gaming, you should still get several hours of use, even when playing graphically intensive titles.

The price of this Alienware laptop is $1,199.99, and again the price will go up when you add more and powerful hardware inside.

What are good in Alienware laptops for gaming?

Alienware’s Key Strengths

  • Functional, Innovative Design: Alienware’s Legend design is not only stunning, it’s also functional, allowing consumers to access and swap out everything from the storage to the processor.
  • Lots of Customization: Alienware’s never been a brand to shy away from the kitchen sink approach. From color to components, consumers can build their dream system. The company has recently added 4K OLED displays to several of its laptops.

Alienware Key Weaknesses

  • No Sub-$1,000 Option: Although Alienware offers an impressive amount of configurations, it’s rare for you to see one of its systems starting at under $1,000.

Reviews

Alienware absolutely crushed it this year, consistently releasing excellent gaming laptops. Yes, the subsidiary of Dell sells only a few models, but of the five we reviewed, three were Editor’s Choice picks and none received less than a 4-star rating. With those marks, Alienware achieved the highest average laptop rating of any brand, at 4.1 stars.

While we recommend each of the Alienware laptops we reviewed this year, the standout is undoubtedly the Area-51m. A 17.3-inch behemoth, the upgradable Area-51m is packed with the most powerful components around, including a Core i9 CPU and a GTX 2080 GPU. The sleeker m15 is a more budget-friendly option that offers similar performance as well as long battery life (for a gaming laptop) and a brilliant display.

Design

The spaceship has evolved. With the Alienware Area-51m, the company is making a decisive move by employing the new Legend design language. As seen on the Area-51m, Alienware is going for a sleeker look, sporting rounded curves, bold honeycomb patterns and magnesium-alloy chassis with otherworldly paint jobs dubbed Dark Side of the Moon and Lunar Light. Alienware has pulled back on the amount of customizable LEDs, but it’s still there with its seductive glow. But the new aesthetic is equal parts lovely and functional as it’s the world’s only upgradable laptop on the market — and, yes, that includes the CPU and GPU.

Alienware, however, isn’t done with its Epic design language just yet. On the contrary, the company made many tweaks to the interstellar-battleship aesthetic. The company launched the m15 and m17 laptops, the thinnest, lightest Alienware laptops in their respective size range. The m15 is also the first Alienware system to incorporate the highly popular narrow bezel design that gives viewers more display real estate. And the Nebula Red m17 is our favorite red laptop this year. But even though Alienware has been trimming the fat, it still hasn’t been enough to match competing systems,

Innovation

The gaming laptop that truly stole the show in the last year is the Alienware Area 51m, which is the first gaming laptop to offer an upgradeable CPU and GPU along with a stunning all-new design and cooling system.

Alienware also delivered its thinnest and lightest 15-inch and 17-inch notebooks ever and its first 15-inch OLED gaming laptop. On the software front, Alienware Command Center enables GPU overclocking with an updated interface, as well as auto-tune game profiles.

Support and Warranty

Our undercover technical support investigation showed that Alienware customers will find the best help on social media platforms, where the company’s knowledgeable agents provided answers in a timely fashion. If only the company’s telephone agents were a bit more accurate and focused on providing answers than jumping onto our system and doing it for us, their overall experience would be loads better.Advertisement

Warranties for Alienware laptops can be extended by up to five years. The company allows you to upgrade memory and storage without voiding your warranty, and it provides an option to spend a little more to add accidental-damage protection

Value and Selection

As you might imagine, Alienware doesn’t have a very large selection of laptops, and they’re not exactly cheap. However, each one has been an exceptional addition to the company’s lineup. The most affordable machine offered by this company is the Alienware m15, which starts at $1,199 and comes with a Core i5 CPU, a GTX 1660 Ti and 8GB of RAM. That price is pretty high for those components, even if you do get a sleek design, a vivid display and relatively long battery life.

Price of Alienware laptop – is it worth buying

The Alienware m17 ($1,249 starting) and Alienware 17 R5 ($1,249 starting) ditch Nvidia Max-Q for full-size GPUs and offer mainstream pricing. Meanwhile, the Alienware 15 R4 and Area-51m can get ludicrously expensive. Although the Area-51m is the most powerful of these machines, it starts at $1,949, whereas the Alienware 15 R4 starts at $1,449.

Depending on the configuration, the Area-51m can go for up to $5,149 and come stuffed with an overclockable 9th Gen Core i9 desktop CPU, a full RTX 2080 GPU and 64GB of RAM. The Alienware 15 R4 caps out at $4,789 and comes with an 8th Gen Core i9 laptop CPU, a GTX 1080 Max-Q GPU and 32GB of RAM. For just a $360 difference, that upgrade is wild.

While Alienware is focused on high-end gaming, we’d like to see one of these machines dip into the sub-$1,000 range (price of Alienware laptop).

Are Alienware laptops good for gaming?

It’s a popular question – are Alienware laptops good for gaming? Thanks to their powerful graphics, gorgeous displays and great audio, gaming laptops provide an immersive entertainment experience in a portable package. Many also offer stylish designs, desktop-quality keyboards and the ability to use high-end VR headsets. And your laptops are getting even more powerful, as Nvidia’s mobile RTX GPUs are rolling out to dozens of top gaming notebooks. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the best gaming laptops to help you start gaming faster.

Is Alienware actually good?

Like many other people have already stated, Yes, Alienware is good for gaming. However, they are over priced and you are paying for the name. The hardware they provide is not worth the price you are paying. … Although, Alienware usually comes with a hefty price tag their 13in gaming laptop is decent.

Why are gaming laptops so expensive?

Is because of the type of hardware inside the device. A modern powerful CPU (e.g. i7 or Ryzen) to do faster and multitask more in applications, a powerful GPU (e.g. Nvidia Geforce GTX 1000 Series or Radeon RX Series) to run even the most demanding 3D games and the large amount of RAM (at least 8GB) that is require to run most programs and games. Some may even tell you that the type of disk drive e.g. solid state drive (SSD) and type of display of the laptop (e.g IPS Full HD) does add to the overall cost of the device.

Now if these type of hardware are modern or have the latest in technology, of course they would be charged at a higher price. It’s a way of how laptop manufacturers will monitor how it goes in market depending on the demand or supply of such devices.
