Top & bottom view

The D960 has the same finish as the ILIFE A6. It is a combination black (to be more specific Piano Black) with gray accents but the difference is shape – A6 is round while D960 is D-shaped like the Neato. I like the deep black finish but it won’t stay that pretty for long trust me.

With only two buttons and the branding at the bottom, interface is as simple as you can get. This robot uses two side brushes which will clean better at the edges and corners. At the middle of these two brushes is a motorized brush roll that sweeps up dirt. It has the same design as the Neato, meaning it uses a combination squeegee and bristle. This design works great at picking up stuff large and small including hair.

Dimensions & weight

One of the advantages of the Dibea D960 is that it has a pretty low profile. Measuring just 3 inches in height, it can go underneath low hanging obstacles without getting stuck. The unit measures 12 inches at its widest point, which makes it a pretty compact bot. For reference, the Roomba 980 measures 13.9 inches across. Its compact design should help the Dibea reach narrow spaces and deliver a thorough clean. The Dibea D960 is also lighter than most robot vacuums weighing just 6.61 lbs (Dibea robot vacuum review). This means it puts a lot less stress on your delicate hardwood and laminate floors.

Capacity of Dust tank

The Dibea D960 comes with almost 12 oz (350 ml) dust tank, which is just about average. The dust tank is good for storing a couple of days’ worth of dust. However, if you have multiple pets at home, you would probably need to empty the tank on a daily basis. While it doesn’t match the 27 oz (800 ml) dust tank capacity of the Bobsweep Bobi Pet vacuum, the D960’s tank should be adequate for most households.

12KPa suction power

Dibea D960 is powered by a 30 watt motor that generates a suction power of 1200 Pa. To put things into prospective, a 1200 Pa suction power is excellent for hard floors and adequate for medium pile carpets. With its 1,200 pascals of pressure, the 6.6-pound Dibea D960 offers ultra-powerful suction that never falters. Since it only stands 3 inches tall, it can easily glide under tables, sofas and beds; however, it is 1-foot wide. Therefore, it can cover a lot of floor in a single pass (Dibea robot vacuum review). Like the other D-series robot vacuums that Dibea makes, this one has a D-shaped body, which lets it clean walls and corners better than circular robot vacuums.

Effective HEPA filter

The HEPA 14 or H14 is the highest grade of HEPA filtration available in the market, which has a filtration efficiency of 99.995%. Unfortunately, Dibea D960 is not fitted with an H14 filter. It instead comes with an H11 HEPA filter, which has a poorer filtration capability. The H11 HEPA filter fitted in the D960 traps 95% of all dust particles measuring 0.3 microns. The plastic container which hold the HEPA also stores a secondary filtration layer (Dibea robot vacuum review).

2600 mAh battery

The Dibea D960 has a 2600 mAh battery. The Dibea D960 is considerably lighter and it lacks the battery-draining laser scanner that the Xiaomi Mi Robot comes with. This means even though the Dibea D960 has half the battery capacity, it comes close to the runtime performance of the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum. The Dibea delivers an impressive autonomy of 120 minutes as opposed to the 150 minutes of continuous cleaning time of the Mi robot vac. The Dibea does, however, fall short when it comes to charging time. It takes a patience-draining 5 hours to charge completely.

Special Features

Dusting and Mopping: The Dibea D960 delivers a combined cleaning effect of dusting and mopping. This simply means that the D960 cleans more in a single pass than a regular vacuum-only robot cleaner. This feature is excellent for sealed hard floors (tiles, marble, sealed wood and so on).

4 Cleaning Modes: The Dibea does not come with smart sensors to intelligently scan the room. It instead sets off in one of four pre-programmed cleaning routes. You get to choose between a traditional zigzag mode, a V-line mode, a spiral spot cleaning mode, and an auto mode.

Remote Control: You get the option to schedule, start, stop, and change the setting using a remote control. While it would have been nice if Dibea offered app based controls, we cannot really complain considering the D960 is a budget unit (you also need to buy separately batteries for the remote control).

Anti-Collision Infrared Sensors: To save itself from colliding with furniture and other obstacles, this Dibea unit comes with infrared sensors. The speed diminishes as soon as the vacuum senses an obstacle. The bump is soft.

Usability

The Dibea D960 has no ability to map the room it’s in. It simple moves around in a set pattern and reacts to obstacles as and when it encounters them. The zigzag cleaning route has worked well for most veteran cleaning bots and should keep the spirit for the D960. Overall, this Dibea banks on a dated yet well-tested algorithm that works instead of offering something ‘revolutionary’ that doesn’t. As for the sound it produces, it’s less than 58 db, which means it is among the most quiet bots I’ve tested.

While the D960 has a number of impressive features on paper–most notably the battery life–nothing matters if it doesn’t actually deliver in practice. The verdict is mixed. Let’s look at the good news first.

When it came to navigation, we were pleased with the level of intelligence programmed into the D960. While it definitely wasn’t the smartest robotic vacuum we’ve come across (that award would go to the Roomba 980 and 960), when it came to finding its way across a room, it did so without repeating itself more than the typical machine we’ve reviewed in its price range. True to Dibea’s word, when done cleaning or when low on battery, the D960 would return faithfully to its charging base to recharge or pat itself for a job well done.

In terms of cleaning, it was comfortable on hardwood floors and low-pile carpets and rugs. Despite Dibea’s warnings not to try it on medium- or high-pile carpets we had to see for ourselves, and confirmed Dibea’s honest assessment of its limits; the D960, like every robotic vacuum we’ve tested besides the Botvac Connected, was no match for higher pile carpets. Our standard recommendation of buying a canister like the Miele Compact C2 Electro+, the Miele Classic C1 Titan, or the Miele Classic C1 Delphi continues to apply; any of the above combined with the D960 will still cost less than a high-end do-everything vacuum like the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog.

Maintenance

Our long hair is very likely to get tangled up in the floor brush and the side brushes. Therefore, a regular maintenance is extremely important. The dust bin can be removed and emptied easily. After a short vacuuming with a handheld vacuum cleaner, the HEPA filter is practically new. Then, I put the mop cloths into the washing machine so that I can reuse them.

Summary of the Dibea D960 robot vacuum cleaner reviews

Top performance on carpets: Without any efforts the Dibea 960 drives on any carpets in our flat – from doormat (height: 0.5 cm) to my pile carpet (height: 2 cm)

Extremely quiet cleaning: Hardly any other vacuum/mopping robot cleans as quietly as the Dibea D960 – it doesn’t even disturb you watching TV.  Also, if it is cleaning under the sofa I didn’t hear it at all.

Soft approaching to obstacles: When vacuuming or mopping the Dibea approaches obstacles very softly. Therefore, it doesn’t leave any traces on our furniture.

Fits under sofa and bed perfectly: Due to the minor height (only 7.5 cm) the Dibea D960 fits under my bed perfectly. It was even vacuuming and mopping under our sofa – you can image how much dust it has collected there.

mop function of Dibea 960: To use the mop function, you have to exchange the dust bin with the water tank which I have filled with lukewarm water first. On the bottom-side I mount the humid mop cloth. For a fresh scent I have put some Ajax floor cleaner on the cloth first.

Mopping on carpets: Less pleasing was the fact that the vacuum and floor mopping robot drove onto the carpets with the water tank. At least, it didn’t get stuck but it would be better if the robot had recognized the carpets and not drove onto them.

Ideal for laminate, parquet, etc.: The Dibea D960 mops with little water which is absolutely sufficient for the cleaning. Therefore, it can also be used on laminate and parquet and the like.

Scheduling of the vacuum and floor mopping robot: With the remote control I set the current time and the daily starting time. From then on, the Dibea has started cleaning reliably on 4 pm every day (as my brother is still going to school he managed to keep an eye on the robot). Of course, it would be useful to be able to set one starting time per weekday …

Navigation with different cleaning modes: First, the Dibea D960 drives along walls and it cleans the rest of the floors afterwards. Firstly, in parallel paths but then, apparently, without any system. So I didn’t really get to understand the navigation system. But due to the producer the vacuum and floor mopping robot is equipped with different cleaning modes, switching between them automatically. That’s how it adjusts to the different type of floors.

Cleaning results of the robot hoover testing : At home, the Dibea 960 had to manage picking up dust, crumbles, hair and the like. In the end, everything was picked up. Even the edges and corners have been cleaned thoroughly as the robot has been driving along them in the beginning. Thumbs up as well for the fact that there is no more dust under my sofa anymore!
