The Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge went on sale on Amazon in July 2020 for $369. A very similar model, the RoboVac G30, was released at the same time for $319. The G30 Edge model includes support for magnetic boundary strips, which helps keep robot vacuums from straying into unwanted areas, but aren’t especially attractive. Design

The Eufy RoboVac G30 is one of the smallest robot vacuums we’ve tested, measuring 12.8 inches in diameter and 2.85 inches tall. On top, it has an attractive black and blue design with three physical buttons: a Recharge button in the middle, flanked by an Auto Cleaning start/pause button above and a Spot Cleaning button below. A Wi-Fi status light is located at the top.

The Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge is identical in size to its siblings, the RoboVac 11s and the RoboVac 30C. It’s a mere 12.8 inches in diameter and 2.85 inches high, making it an inch shorter than the Neato D4. It will also glide under more low clearance furniture than the 3.4-inch Shark Ion R85. 

Brush & dustbin

On the bottom, RoboVac G30 has a main rolling brush, a side brush, drop sensors, and a path-tracking sensor. It also has a 600ml dustbin with an E11 high-performance filter inside. The RoboVac G30 boasts 2,000Pa of suction, easily exceeding the Roomba 675’s 600Pa.  

Flip the vac over and you’ll find a small roller brush set between two rubberized wheels. The rubber and bristle combo roller on the RoboVac G30 Edge is identical to that on the RoboVac 30C and the 11s. The bristles are thick. A tri-spoked spinning brush sits at the top left corner of the G30 Edge. A path-tracking sensor sits on the upper right corner.

Cleaning modes

The RoboVac G30 cleans your home in a systematic route. It features a gyroscope and path tracking sensors so it can move in an orderly path and record where it has passed. In Auto mode, the robot makes straight lines like you would when cutting grass. In Spot mode, it cleans a specific area in a spiral pattern for two minutes. 

Suction

The RoboVac G30 has four suction options to choose from: Standard, Turbo, Max, and BoostIQ. By default it’s set to BoostIQ, which automatically adjusts the suction power based on your floors and the level of debris detected. With BoostIQ enabled, it will increase the suction when it moves over carpets and heavily-soiled areas. 

G30 Edge has 2000Pa of Hard-Hitting Suction power. The ultra-strong 2000Pa of suction power ensures more debris is picked up across all surfaces giving you noticeably cleaner floors.

Sensors

The robot’s anti-drop sensors will prevent it from falling down stairs. The sensors are less effective when dirty or used on carpeted or very dark floors, so you’ll want to wipe them clean often and use physical barriers to block off areas where the robot might fall. Finally, be sure to keep the robot away from wet areas, and use physical barriers around fireplaces and other potentially dangerous spaces. 

Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge comes with Smart Dynamic Navigation 2.0. With the Path Tracking Sensor, Smart Dynamic Navigation 2.0 allows for purposeful cleaning when compared to random path robotic vacuums.

App

The RoboVac G30 doesn’t come with a remote, but you can control it via the EufyHome app (available for Android and iOS). Setting it up to work with the app is simple. Just download the app and create an account if you don’t already have one. Press the plus icon to add the robot to your account, then follow the instructions on screen to set it up on your Wi-Fi network. 

In Eufy RoboVac G30, The EufyHome app has straightforward controls placed on the lower third of the home page. From here you can start a cleaning, choose the suction power, recharge the bot, initiate spot cleaning, set up a schedule, and view cleaning history. There’s an animation that plays when the bot is running, along with a running timer, square footage cleaned, and battery level. 

Tapping the Settings menu on the EufyHome app reveals several additional features. First, you can share control of the bot with friends or family members who have the EufyHome app installed. Another feature, “Find My Robot,” causes the bot to play a loud tune until it’s located, helpful if it gets stuck under a couch. There’s also manual controls, which gives the user complete control over the G30 Edge’s movements forward, left and right. You have to hold down the virtual buttons on the phone in order to keep the vacuum moving, but it’s a fun way to chase the dog.

Smart device integration

Both RoboVac G30 and G30 Edge work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, letting you control it with your voice. Setting it up to work with either voice assistant is easy, especially if you’re familiar with the process. If not, Eufy offers instructions and troubleshooting tips in the Smart Integrations section of the app (accessible from the top left menu).

Performance

In Auto mode, which you’ll probably use most often, it’s not too loud. One of my few complaints about the Roomba 675 is how loud it runs. The RoboVac G30, on the other hand, didn’t bother me, even with BoostIQ enabled, which Eufy warns can increase the noise level. 

Eufy says the RoboVac G30 can run for up to 100 minutes on a charge, but BoostIQ decreases battery life. In testing, it cleaned for 88 minutes in Auto mode with BoostIQ enabled before it ran low on battery and successfully navigated back to its charging station on its own. In comparison, the iRobot Roomba 675 lasted 104 minutes. 

After those 88 minutes, the dustbin was completely filled with dust, dog hair, crumbs, and feathers that must have escaped my pillows. My floors looked much cleaner, and my carpets had perfect vacuum lines on them. 

 The G30 Edge was a middling cleaner, earning an overall pick up average of 88.94%, which is lower than both the Shark Ion R85 and the budget-friendly iLife V3s Pro. However, it did beat its sibling, the RoboVac 30C, and the Neato D4 ever so slightly.

It should be noted that the G30 and the D4 were tested in a different space than the R85 and 30C; we will update these figures once we’ve had a chance to re-test the R85.

The vacuum collected 96.5% of the dog hair on hardwood, though a fair amount of hair was wrapped around the roller brush. The RoboVac G30 Edge’s pet hair performance on carpet also elicited a “woof.” It picked up 78% of the Golden Retriever hair strewn on the soft surface, 6 points below the Neato D4 and 20 points below the Shark Ion R85.
