What is good in FireAngel?

The FireAngel ST-622 is the ultimate alternative to traditional alarms. Complete with Thermoptek™ technology the ST-622 combines the very latest in optical sensing with thermal enhancement offering faster response to both fire types.

Thermoptek™ technology

Thermoptek™ technology combines the very latest in optical sensing with thermal enhancement, providing fast reaction to both slow smouldering and fast flaming fires in a single alarm.

The Thermoptek™ technology in the ST-622 provides responsiveness to all fire types in one alarm and removes the need for ionisation alarms

Sleep Easy Function

Low battery warnings often start at night or when it may be inconvenient for you to replace your alarm.

The ST-622 allows for the often frustrating low battery warning chirp to be silenced until it is convenient for you to change the alarm silencing the audible chirp for a period of 8 hours. The detector will still detect smoke during this period but offers you an easy way of silencing those annoying beeps.

Need A Heat Detector?

If you are looking for a suitable Heat Detector FireAngel also offer the HT-630T Battery Operated Heat Alarm.

Be aware, 10 year battery does not seem to be the case

This is the first review I have left and I do so because I feel people should be aware of this product and some of it’s potential limitations.

I purchased a pack of 2 of these smoke alarms back in July 2016. They arrive quickly and were really easy to fit. I can also say that they are louder than my previous smoke alarms and look a lot nicer.

Things have been fine with them for over 2 years and I was happy and actually looking at purchasing another 1 to replace an old smoke alarm. However I went away on holiday for 9 days and came back to hear the alarm in our bedroom was emitting a low battery warning sound, what is more concerning is that after only a couple more days the smoke alarm was completely dead. If we had been away for a 2 week holiday I believe that in that time the smoke alarm would have gone from emitting it’s first warning noise of a low battery to completely dead whilst we were away. If this had happened we would not have been aware of the faulty smoke alarm.

I’m hoping this is just one bad alarm out of an otherwise good batch, but the message to people is KEEP TESTING your smoke alarms and be wary of the claims of battery life. I will now be testing my remaining alarms every time I get back off holiday (As well as the periodic testing that I know I should be doing), just in case the other goes the same way.

Would I buy another one? I’ll wait and see how my conversation with FireAngel goes before I make that decision and I’ll see how much longer the other one lasts.

Good device – poor battery life & NO RECYCLE SCHEME!!

We bought a Fire Angel Thermoptek ST 620 and have used it flawlessly for 18months – only because we deliberately AVOIDED doing weekly or fortnightly testing, opting for a once a month test – upon realisation of its sealed battery. However, like everyone else that has criticised this product we perceived the battery life to be poor if used as recommended by the manufacturer.

I believe the real issue though is poorly communicated product details. I think the manufacturer has MISSED a massive opportunity. If I was responsible for producing these units I’d have offered a recycling facility taking back ANY battery dead product and offering a new replacement at a discount against the list price. Even on environmental grounds I can’t believe manufacturers are not legislated to accept life expired products for safe disposal, instead of relying on the consumer to act as appropriate.

In fairness to ANY manufacturer of such products, there really is no one type/make fits-all-solution. The design challenge for such products is further exacerbated by the fact that the longer such a device is in operation, the more `contaminated’ its detection sensors become. Vacuuming the device on some products may actually compromise or possibly impair the ability to function as intended. On this basis a one year life device is really the best compromise to give domestic users some degree of operational integrity and reliability, so why don’t they say so? Unfortunately this message is poorly communicated in product literature by some manufacturers, especially where the focus is on a quoted battery life instead.

Not wishing to pick on Fire Angel Thermoptek the following wording is included in their sales literature at their website

[…] .
We recognise that not all batteries are made the same – the ST-620 includes 10-year laser-welded lithium power pack which prevents moisture ingress to ensure the alarm will remain powered for life.
