Honeywell HPA710WE premium air purifier review
Design
Being an upright, medium-sized air purifier which measures 53 x 33 x 22cm, the Honeywell air purifier is slightly smaller than the Pro Breeze and Philips AC3256/60, however, larger than the Levoit LM-H132. It is certain that the Honeywell air purifier will easily fit in any living room, bedroom or office spaces.
The user interface takes advantage of touch-sensitive buttons which are located at the top of the machine, making it very user-friendly. Blue lights indicate which functions are currently running giving a clear visual display.
It also comes with an inbuilt air quality monitor which displays air quality through a traffic light type system. There are three colour indications, blue is good quality air, amber is fair quality air and red indicates the air quality is poor. This is a nice feature that we expect to see on a premium air purifier.
Room coverage
Although there are no specific room size measurements given by Honeywell, on the box it states that is can be used in “large” rooms. We’ve estimated that to be at least 50m2 or more. For a premium air purifier in this price range, it is expected that it can perform in larger spaces than that of it’s cheaper competitors. We’ve contacted Honeywell to obtain room coverage data and are waiting a response.
4-stage Air Filtration
Thus air purifier uses a 4-stage filtration process to clean indoor air. It begins when the fan draws in air through the purifier. A pre-filter captures larger particles such as pet hair, dander and pollen. This increases purification effectiveness and extends the life of the HEPA filter inside the air purifier.
The air then passes through a carbon filter. This absorbs odours, gasses and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in the air. This leaves your indoor air not only cleaner but also fresher.
The air then goes through a HEPA filter. This is a highly efficient filter that captures 99.97% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns. It captures dust, smoke particles and mould.
The final cleaning process is done through ionisation. It’s up to you whether you want to activate it or not using a button on the control panel. Ionisation releases negative ions into the air to kill bacteria, germs and mould.
CLEAN AIR DELIVERY RATE (CADR)
The Honeywell air purifier has a very respectable CADR of 187m3/hour and Honeywell state that this machine will clean the air 5x per hour. The CADR is comparable to that of the Pro Breeze machine, however, the prices are miles apart. The Honeywell air purifier, however, has a 3 year warranty and are a well-trusted brand within this industry. With the benefit of an in-built air quality sensor that dispays air quality data with a traffic light system, we believe the price is justified.
5 Cleaning Levels
Using the touch control panel on the air purifier, you can choose from five levels of cleaning. There’s whisper silent, turbo, germs, general and allergens. Whisper silent is perfect for sleeping. It lowers fan speed to reduce noise. Turbo is good for eliminating smoke, dust or excessive odours from the air quickly.
There is also a sleep mode which reduces fan noise and dims indicator lights as well as a 2hr, 4hr and 8hr timer.
How to use Honeywell HPA710WE premium air purifier?
It’s very easy to use. There is no installation involved; it’s just plug-and-play.
Unfortunately there is no remote control so you have to use the buttons on the control panel every time you want to change a setting. But unlike a portable air conditioner, you don’t have to position the purifier near a window. You can have it next to the couch or bed where you can easily reach it.
The buttons are touch-sensitive. Just a gentle touch will do.
Indicator lights, including a colour-coded air quality sensor indicator, tell you what settings are active and how clean your indoor air is.

Quite large and heavy but apparently effective
Other Air Purifiers, ionizers and simar devices have been used in the past to assist the (mostly night-time) breathing of an asthmatic family member. Effectiveness of most has been limited or non-demonstrable but the various devices were small, generally very portable and inexpensive.
The “Honeywell HPA710WE Premium Air Purifier True HEPA Allergen Remover with Smart LED Air Quality Sensor, 33 W” is a larger and significantly heavier floor-standing unit that is just under 60cm high (almost 24-inches). Essentially similar in size to a medium suitcase, this offers a full-function HEPA filter capable of removing (it claims) 99.97% of tobacco smoke, air-carried vapours and odours, pollen, dust and pet detritus among others; that it is about the highest efficiency possible. There is also an ionizer in this model alone, apparently the top of Honeywell’s range in terms of features, size and price and not in the lesser models.
The top panel is dedicated to its controls and indicators of which there are several including a ‘traffic light’ system of LEDs for air quality – blue is good, red poor, and amber fair. Another indicator shows when filter replacement is due; generally, that will be after about 3-6 months of use (based upon experience with a few other manufacturers’ products) if used daily and for several hours each time but Honeywell are not offering any specific indication presumably as air quality and the contaminents within it in different homes or locations can vary greatly.
Operation is essentially silent although there may be the occasional ‘sizzle’ from its ionizer, apparently insufficient to disrupt sleep patterns as it is presently located in a bedroom. The machine appears to be very effective and the user’s night-time breathing appears to be improved. It is among the higher priced of all similar products from any brand but most tend to have fewer usage options and not always include an ionizer. It is fairly bulky and heavy at 7Kg (approx 15 lbs) and probably will not be relocated from room to room very often but it can process a larger volume of air over a given time than a smaller model.
Honeywell is not a widely-known brand in the UK for household appliances but is a leader within the USA for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and related products. Worth its price if you or a family member need its extra capabilities.
