Mr. Coffee BVMC-PO19B all-in-one pour over coffee maker customer reviews

Game Changer.

I don’t know if I’ve ever really had pour over coffee. I live and work in a boojie area with boojie coffee joints and pour over is all the rage. Lines of hipsters paying $7-10+ to stand around for 30 minutes for a cup of stupid coffee? No thanks. I like nice coffee but I ain’t paying that and I ain’t standing around for it. The coffee joint in my office building got world-wide press for being the joint that serves a cup of pour-over that’s $50. FIFTY DOLLARS. And staff gets coffee from there (nobody has gotten the $50 one, but they stand in line for regular). So when this machine was offered to me, I though, well, I work in a boojie office so maybe it would be cool to have for those here that are into pour-over.

I un-boxed yesterday, brought in some coffee and filters this morning, and let everyone know I was going to try the machine out. There I was, 8:15 am, rolling my eyes at all the steps you have to take to make stupid coffee. Rolling my eyes at how slowwwwwwww the coffee was filtering down while I slowwwwwwwwly poured in water. The whole time I’m thinking, this is absurd, I’m never doing this again! But I literally had every person in my small office of 8 standing in the kitchen, all looking at me like I’m some alien magician teaching cavepeople how to create fire. Oohing and ahhing every step of the way, noses in the air, saliva on their lips, just… waiting.

Let me just say, my mind exploded like it was shot with a confetti cannon after making the maiden cup in this thing. Holy smokes it’s good. I also made a regular pot of coffee so I could measure the differences between regular and this, but turns out I wasted a pot of regular coffee because there is no comparison.

This takes about 4 times the grounds to make a cup of coffee, and it takes about 15 minutes (give or take) of hand-on, so it’s an indulgence for sure, but I have to admit I really like the end product.

Reviewing the machine itself:

I think it takes a lot of guesswork out of this boojie way to make coffee for sure, and this is a good pricepoint. The parts seem sturdy and well made, plus is has an added benefit of combining a coffee maker and electric kettle for people that also maybe want tea. On my second attempt I did miss pressing “next” after I weighed the coffee and just started pouring water in, and there is no way to go back or re-do, I had to scoop out wet grounds because the machine was registering that I had too many ground in, but I managed to move past that with a bit of a mess. So just make sure you press “next” with every step.

Verdict: Love it, and will get to work a bit early now just to make a stupid cup of coffee. Call me converted.

Buying guide

Features to consider when choosing a pour over coffee maker It goes without saying that there are many features to consider when shopping for a pour over coffee maker, ranging from the capacity of the machine to the type of carafe, the level of insulation to keep your coffee hot for longer, as well as the type of filter used. You should also consider the design and dimensions of the coffee maker to be sure that it will work well on your countertop.

Capacity

Most of the pour-over coffee makers available on the market state their capacity in ounces, and some of them also mention how many cups of coffee you can get with a single brew. Consider how many cups of coffee do you need in the morning for your entire family, but also think of situations where you might have guests around for a chat over a cup. If you’re only looking to brew coffee for a single person, there are multiple options available, including the 17 oz version of the Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker and the Coffee Gator Pour Over Brewer Mug, which is also suitable for travel.

Type of coffee maker

The two main types of pour over coffee makers are manual and automatic. With manual ones, you need to oversee the entire brewing process, whereas automatic models do the job for you. If you’re looking for single-cup coffee makers, you can get one in the form of a traveling mug such as the Coffee Gator Pour Over Brewer Mug, or the Hario V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper to use with any of the mugs in your kitchen.

Type of filter

The two main types of filters you can find in pour over coffee makers are paper and stainless-steel filters. Models that require traditional paper filters are generally less expensive, and they do a good job at making sure there are no sediments in your cup. However, stainless steel filters are more environmentally-friendly and easier to use because you don’t have to remember to buy any paper filters. Most of them are also dishwasher-friendly for easy care.

Type of carafe

The two main types of carafes you can generally find in pour over coffee makers are glass and thermal. Glass models are generally cheaper, but thermal ones are more durable, with the added advantage of keeping your coffee hotter for longer.

Insulation

The insulation of the carafe is important because it determines for how long your coffee will remain hot after brewing. A carafe with a regular single wall will not be able to maintain a high temperature for long, but if you opt for a model with vacuum sealed double walls, you might expect to have your coffee hot for 6 hours or more.

Design, dimensions and weight

The design should be taken into account not only when it comes to the way the coffee maker looks on your countertop, but also for situations where you might need to take it out of the house. For example, if you are looking for a coffee dripper that you can take with you travelling, you may find the Coffee Gator Pour Over Brewer Mug a good choice. The dimensions and the weight of the coffee maker also important particularly when you find yourself in situations where you need to move it a lot, like in an office, for example.
