What’s the main difference between these machines – Nespresso Lattissima Pro vs Plus? The ability to heat just milk, for one. Ability to dispense hot water. Larger milk, water and spent pod reservoirs. LED display. You are prompted to clean the milk receptacle. A ‘ristretto’ setting (very small amount of espresso). I have both and use both every morning when preparing lattes for my husband any myself. No need to have two, but I’m keeping the Plus as a back-up. The Pro drew me in with the milk and water settings. I like just steamed milk occasionally (much better steamed than from the aeroccino), and my husband enjoys tea, so it is nice to have the hot water setting.
And to be honest, I just like a little coffee with my milk, so I am often adding more milk than the latte setting provides (yes, I do realize I can customize that output on both machines, but not everybody feels the same as I do about milk qty). Very sturdy machine. More sleek than the Plus. And when I say milk, I mean coconut flavored Almond milk. The primary reason I purchased a Nespresso machine in April 2013 was to have lattes with non-dairy and non-soy options. At the time, last April, Starbucks and Peets did not offer almond milk. Peets now does, but they don’t have coconut flavored – it makes all the difference.

What is good in Nespresso Lattissima Coffee Maker?
One Touch Hot Milk System
To take convenience to a higher level, the Lattissma espresso maker is not just able to make cappuccino or latte. It can make them with just a touch of the buttons. The amount of milk froth can also be adjusted to your liking by turning the froth regulator.
Nespresso Coffee Capsule System
Nespresso is well known for its coffee capsule system. It provides convenience to the users as there is no need to deal with messy coffee powder. Just load the capsule in the machine and you get your selected drink automatically. On completion, there is no cleaning up of the used capsules until the capsule containers have eached its capacity to store the ejected used coffee capsules. All three Nespresso Lattissma models come with this technology.
Versatility
We all have different taste preferences. So we may like a thinner or thicker espresso. We may want more milk in our cappuccino. In these three models, this need is taken care of by their memory capability. You can easily change and store the quantity of milk or water for each drink option in these models.
Easy of Cleaning
Cleaning these machines is very convenient. You can easily remove the water tank, drip tray, capsule containers for cleaning. In addition, you can clean the milk sprout easily by running hot water out of it.
Peace of Mind
There is no need to remember if you have shut down the coffee makers. All 3 models will switch off automatically after you stop using the coffee makers for 9 minutes. If you prefer a longer period of inactivity before automatic power off, there are other options available for each of these models.
Ease of Maintenance
There is also no need to keep track of your descaling done. The machine will alert you when it’s time for a descaling. The manual also provides a step by step guide on the descaling process. Upon following the steps, the machine will take over to run descaling automatically.
Able to Accommodate Large Mugs
The coffee sprout for the 3 models has a high height clearance. This is good news to large mugs lovers.
Aesthetics
All 3 models may not be the smallest coffee machines. But if you compare with coffee makers with milk frothing capability, these models are really compact. This really helps to save our counter space.
If you dislike cables lying around on the kitchen top, you will like their cable guide to hide the excess cable.
Which one has better feature – Lattissima Pro vs Plus vs Touch?
At a glance, the 3 models looks pretty similar in appearance. But there are quite a few important differences between the 3 models. Let’s talk about them right now.
Auto-Cleaning of Milk Sprout
All 3 models have the capability to clean the milk sprout automatically. However, the mode to activate this function is different for the 3 models.
It is somewhat easier to activate this function in the Lattissima Plus and Touch models. They use a “clean” button to do so. However, you need to turn a knob in the Lattissima Pro.
Water Tank Capacity
For those with a large family, Lattissima Plus may not be a good option. It has the smallest water tank and milk container capacity. It can only hold up to 30 ounces of water. That means more frequent refills of the water tank.
In comparison, the Lattissima Touch and Pro can hold about 50% more water with a 44 ounce tank capacity.
Milk Container Capacity
If your family likes milk-based drinks, then perhaps Lattissima Pro will be a better choice. It can hold 25% more milk than Touch and Plus with its 16 ounces milk container. Lattissima Touch and Plus can only hold up to 12 ounces of milk.
Used Capsule Contain Capacity
Lattissima Pro wins in this department again. It has a larger used capsule capacity of 15 used capsules while Lattissima Touch and Plus can only hold up 10 capsules.
Controls
The controls are certainly more advanced in the Lattissima Pro. Pro uses sensor touch display while Plus and Touch uses the old school physical buttons for making drink options.
Drink Options
Lattissima Pro also has more drink options than Pro and Plus. Plus can only make espresso, lungo, latte and cappuccino. Touch has more options. It can make ristretto and hot milk too.
Pro can make all of them. It can also make Americano with its hot water sprout in the side recess.
What’s even better is that you can set the default amount of water you want for the Americano.
Heating Time
All three models use a thermoblock heating system. However, Lattissima Plus doesn’t heat up as fast as Pro or Touch. It takes 40 seconds as compared to 25 seconds for Pro and Touch.
Automatic Power Off Period of Inactivity
As the higher end model, Lattissima Pro has 1 more option available for you to adjust the period of inactivity for the coffee maker to shut down automatically. In Lattissima Pro, you can select 2 hours in addition to the 30 minutes or eight hours found in Lattissma Plus and Touch.
Able to Accommodate Large Mugs
Alhough all 3 models can accommodate large mugs, Lattissima Pro’s coffee sprout is located higher than the other 2 models. If you have a really big mug, check this out.
Compact
Lattissma beats the other 2 models in various departments. It has larger capacities for water tank, milk container and used capsule container. As a trade-off, Lattissima Pro is also taller and heavier.

So far, we’ve talked about the Lattissima EN720 and EN680 in our blog, and we’ve lined out the difference between them. In this post, we’ll be looking at two other lattissima models, the Lattissima Pro and Lattissima Plus.
Which one is worth buying – Nespresso Lattissima Pro vs Plus?
Like many other espresso machines, these might look quite similar when you see them for the first time. And they are, to some extent. There are two main similarities in these two machines:
- They are powered by Nespresso’s Capsule system. So you can ONLY use Nespresso capsules with them.
- They have an integrated milk frother which heats and froths the milk automatically and pours it right into your cup.
What about the differences?
- The DeLonghi Pro is a newer, much polished and much improved version of the Lattissima Plus.
- The PRO features a touch-screen display which allows you to easily customize your drinks. The PLUS has push-buttons.
- The PRO has 6 drinks already pre-set and ready for you to try! All pre-sets can be reprogrammed as well. The PLUS has 3 drink pre-sets.
- Design wise: The Lattissima PRO featured beautiful Italian design, full stainless steel body with blue LED blacklight indicators. The PLUS has plastic body, and available in few colors.
- Both machines has detachable milk frothers, but with the Lattissima PRO you can have milk froth without the need to brew coffee, which you can use for hot chocolate for example. This option isn’t available in the PLUS.
- The Lattissima PRO features a hot water dispenser which gives you boiled water instantly.
Customer reviews – Nespresso Lattissima Pro vs Plus
We upgraded from the Lattissima Plus and are happy with this new model
We upgraded from the Lattissima Plus and are happy with this new model. There are other great reviews here that detail the differences if you are moving from a Plus to a Pro.
There are a few new features that we particularly like – though nothing really meriting the large expense of a new machine if your old one is working fine:
– There is a float switch that will tell you when you are low on water – since the reservoir is behind the machine – and the machine is much taller than the Plus model – this is a very nice little feature.
– You don’t have to wait for the unit to heat up to make your coffee selection and walk away. While the unit shows the heating up status bar – just push the option you want and walk away. Once it is ready it will auto process your input. With the Plus model you had to hang out around the machine warmed up (buttons would flash) then make your selection after it is ready to go.
– There is a little nozzle/adapter you can place on the Milk side – which will let you make hot water – for tea. We didn’t think we would use this – but it seems like a neat feature if you drink tea or have guests that might. We rarely use the milk frother – and could have easily gotten by with a lesser machine – but quite like having all of the options for the occasions we do want to use milk, etc.
– While we own plenty of very nice things that were made in China (including our iPhones) – we do get a certain sense of satisfaction owning things that are made elsewhere. The box reads MADE IN ITALY.
I can only say that now I can enjoy my Latte’s and espresso’s every day without going bankrupt
Having used the Lattissima Plus now for several months, I can only say that now I can enjoy my Latte’s and espresso’s every day without going bankrupt. The taste is just as good, and in many cases, better than from Starbucks and other coffee houses. The capsule system is simplicity in itself and if you are budget conscious, with a little internet searching, you can find many third party capsule vendors out there, although I must admit that Nespresso makes some of the best tasting coffees. Cleaning is a breeze since most of the parts are dishwasher safe and the milk container has a button that allows you to run steam through the dispensing nozzle. The machine footprint takes up little space on my kitchen counter. I use filtered water from my refrigerator and I haven’t had to descale my machine yet.
Now for the cons of this machine if we want to call them that. The water tank is on the small side because of the physical size of the machine so you will be filling the tank more often. I get about 8 cups of espresso from one tank of water and I get about 4 lattes from a full milk container. (I like a lot of milk foam, you may get 5 or more lattes) I preheat my cups because the water temperature coming out of the machine is about 200 degrees and this temperature can be stunted by a cold cup. If I’m in a hurry and forget to preheat, I put the cup of espresso or latte in the microwave for ten seconds and the temperature is perfect. I know that some people have complained about the temperature of the coffee but I don’t find this to be much of a problem. After all, most espresso machines have a cup warmer on them for a reason.
I am very pleased with my machine and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to use espresso machine with the ability to automatically make cappuccinos and lattes.
