Oreck Elevate Control review

Oreck Elevate Control review – does it support height adjustment?

Does Oreck Elevate Control support height adjustment to clean different carpets? The Oreck Elevate Control is a competent and well-designed vacuum.  Just under 16 pounds, it weighs significantly light. The cleaning abilities of the Control are strong. The Sani seal system automatically seals filtration contents upon disposal to lock in dirt & debris, while the extra-large Capacity holds up to 4x the amount of dust, dirt and debris of a typical bag less vacuum. The full access low-profile design with an extended 30 foot cord enables you to get those hard to reach areas under furniture. The 5 bright led headlights let you finally see what you’ve been missing. So how good is Oreck Elevate Control cleaning performance? Find details in Oreck Elevate Control review.

Oreck Elevate Control review

Pros

  • Easy to Maneuver and Handle.
  • Light weight. I love that it is less than 9 pounds. Just a little heavier than a newborn baby!!! I thought my Shark was light and that thing is around 14 pounds. What’s normally 14 pounds..a Butterball turkey?
  • Excellent Brushing and Suction Power. Carpets look clean and refreshed after a once over even the high traffic matted areas look much improved!
  • Low Profile Head with LED Lights. It can get under beds and other furniture with low clearance better than my Kirby or Shark. The LED lights are nifty too. They light the way and I can see all the dust bunnies get sucked away!
  • Filtration Bags. I love bags because you can just toss them and not deal with dumping the canisters and kicking up dust. I don’t like to see or accidentally touch the icky stuff. But I also love canister vacuums so I never have to buy or be without bags. Quite the conundrum, I know. Good thing is Amazon has the bags.
  • Long Cord. it’s 30 feet long!!! Only one model from the Elevate line (Conquer–the most expensive one) has a longer cord at 35 feet.
  • Sleek, Simple, Attractive. Enough said.
  • Made (assembled) in USA! And high quality!

Cons

  • No Height Adjustment on the Oreck Elevate Control Model. This means that this model is only good for carpeting and not for any kind of hard floors. Also I am not sure if it would be equally great on different height carpet piles. I have standard pile carpeting and it works for me but if you have low pile or Berber…check to see if other reviewers have good experience. If you need to vacuum hard floors, try the other two (more expensive) Elevate models: Conquer and Command
  • No Attachments or Tools (crevice, upholstery brush, extra tubing, etc.). Without these tools, there is no way this can be my only vacuum. I have babies. I need all the tools to vacuum debris in between couch cushions, under furniture, in corners, curtains, mini blinds, suck up cobwebs, etc. There is not the option of buying these tools separately as there is no way to connect them to the vacuum. Oreck sells separate handheld canister vacuum with these tools.
  • Very Simple and Unattractive Cord Keep. I get that to keep the vacuum sleek and light weight, it doesn’t have a bunch of bulky stuff attached to it. But I don’t particularly like the cord keep. It’s too minimal for me. And if you don’t carefully wrap the cord, it just looks messy.

How good is packaging?

Held up very nicely during shipping. Box is very sturdy. Opening the box took some muscle, but that only speaks to the sturdiness of the container.

How to assemble Oreck Elevate Control?

First of all, there is not much to assemble…you only have to put the handle on. This was very easy to do even if you don’t look at the instructions (although you should look at the instructions).

Is it user friendly?

The instructions are written very clearly and user friendly. I was vacuuming in no time. The Oreck Elevate Control has two settings: one for carpet and one for hardwood floors. It is easy to switch between the two…all you have to do is use the toggle switch on the handle. The Oreck glides nicely on carpet. It is light weight and is easy to move in the direction you wish to go. It does an excellent job vacuuming even next to baseboards. It also does an excellent job on hardwood floors…especially picking up debris between the boards.

Light Weight and Very Good Suction

We have carpet and hardwood floors in our house. This Oreck vacuum works well on both types of surfaces. The vacuum is easy to maneuver and transitions very nicely between the two types of flooring. It is light weight but still quite powerful and does a very good job on the floors. It comes in two pieces that were easy to assemble.

The lights are bright and make it easy to see what you are vacuuming and what you don’t want to vacuum up. This Oreck will eat a USB charging cable in a heartbeat if it is left on the floor ( Yes it did, but I was able to extricate it from the power head ) The two speed feature is nice and the low profile design makes it easy to vacuum under chairs, coffee tables, beds, etc.

Haven’t had to change the bag yet – only one Select Allergen SaniSeal bag is included – so I am not sure how easy that will be, but the replacement bags seem rather expensive at over $2.50 each when bought in packs of 25 bags. There are no crevice tools or hose attachments included with the vacuum. That and the cost of replacement bags brought it down to 4 stars. It does come with a coupon for a free Service tune-up at your local Oreck dealer or authorized Oreck Service center.

Oreck vetran is pleased so far

This is my second Oreck. My first one lasted almost twenty years. We’ll see if this one lives up to that standard. My first impressions are good. The machine is still fairly light—less than ten pounds—and has exceptional suction (though I see that some reviewers disagree).

The roller is firm, which might be too rigorous on some delicate rugs; nevertheless, I’ve used it on my 25-year old Oriental rug and did fine. The vacuum is so strong that it seems to propel itself. The thirty foot cord is handy, so that I can reach much of my relatively small house without having to change electric plugs frequently.

Some object to the lack of a retractable feature, but I have to admit that those seldom worked for me—there was always a foot or two that never went in; so the fact that I have to rewind the cord by hand is a plus for me and something I’m used to. I also like (new to this model) the handle halfway down the back, making the vacuum easy to carry upstairs.

The replacement bags are more outrageously expensive than ever, especially considering that they are not HEPA quality. But I do get a free service tune-up for a year.

The vacuum is assembled in America of both foreign and domestic parts. The original factory was about fifty miles from my home, but Hurricane Katrina took care of that. They moved to Tennessee but may have branched out by now.

There are no attachments for furniture or draperies. But all those did for me in earlier machines was weigh too much and fall off much of the time. This Oreck works well on wood floors and tile, as well as carpet. Buy a Dirt Devil for smaller stuff.

I’m having much of my house redone this summer, so there’s a lot of vacuuming going on lately. This new Oreck has really lived up to the challenge of dirt, grime, and tile grit. It’s a tough machine.

Thus my first impressions are really good. Yes, $450 (you gotta include shipping) is expensive. That’s up there in the Electrolux range. But I’ve been reading the recent reviews for Electrolux, and they’re not very good. (Sic transit . . .) Honestly, I’m not sure I could have sprung this much for a vacuum without the Vine program’s assistance. Yet now that I know how good this machine is (so far, at least), I might have done so anyway. All I can say to you, dear reader, is that this customer is very pleased indeed. Read the other reviewers and see whether this appliance is worth your hard-earned money. I’d vote yes.
