Pros & Cons – Reolink 4K 16CH PoE security-camera-system
Pros
- Higher resolution. This is so extremely important. Higher the resolution means that you can see identifying information from further distances. Most systems stop at HD 1080 or 720. Reolink takes is another step past that.
- PoE. Power over Ethernet allows extremely fast install as you only have one cable to run for the signal back to the recorder AND power. It also means that any holes you need to cut in your walls are much smaller.
- The quality of the Ethernet cable is very nice, very flexible and easy to pass through tight spaces.
- Multiple ways to access the video feed. Bring able to use my laptop/desktop, phone, tablet, or the Reolink recorder to access the interface and recordings is really nice. Especially when it came time to position the cameras. Bring able to see the camera view in my phone made the process a cinch.
- The motion tracking system is great for maximising the recording time and minimising unneeded recordings and alerts.
- Plenty of other cameras for specific needs that are 100% compatible and just plug.
- Lots of extra ports for more cameras
Cons: ( these are rather minimal)
- Mounting screws strip very easily. This is a very common problem with screws in general now days. I really suggest not bothering with the included ones and great a pack of number 6 wood screws
- Setting the motion sensitivity is a little tricky. Not really a complaint, but it does take a fair amount of tinkering to get it right for your needs. I suggest taking your time and don’t expect to get it correct the first time.

Power Over Ethernet
The network video recorder connects to the cameras over the ethernet and allows for a simple setup to an HDMI monitor, which might appeal to beginners or those who have had bad experiences with complicated security monitoring in the past.
This Reolink surveillance package also uses a POE system, which prevents the need for extensive network cables. In other words, the connection to the cameras and network video recorder run through a single ethernet cable.
Camera Quality
The HD and detailed imagery of the camera quality and video clarity can be a major boost to users who are looking for a very high resolution and detailed recording quality in their home security systems.
The cameras for this system record in 4K HD, which nears four times the quality of 1080p. This allows for the setup to record highly detailed and clear imagery, including when the camera zooms in to detect objects and other motion more clearly.
Recording
In terms of recording, this system has 2 terabytes of pre-installed hard drive space and allows for 24/7 recording as well as an additional 2 terabytes in the form of external space. All 8 cameras can record simultaneously to prevent any missing footage or gaps in the security setup with the home.
The major draw here would be for buyers who need a security camera that can record for long spans of time without running out of data space.
Playback
With playback options, this Reolink product has the option for remote monitoring and users can view playback at any time via an app. This app is available for both iOS and Android devices and allows for the viewing of all connected cameras. The system also provides alerts when the cameras detect moving objects or a potentially dangerous situation.
An advantage here is that users who spend a lot of time away from the house or not directly on the scene can still monitor and stay updated on their security system.
Reolink 4K 16CH PoE security-camera-system customer review
Can’t Beat the Quality or Ease of Installation At This Price
Installation: My home was already prewired with CAT6 (POE) cabling for 11 cameras – 7 outside, 4 inside. I bought Reolink to replace an existing surveillance system. The installation was as simple as removing the old camera and plugging in the new Reolink camera. The NVR was also a simple swap and replace.
App setup: I first downloaded the app to my Droid phone. After I manually entered the UID for my NVR, all the cameras hooked up to the NVR automatically appeared. I then downloaded the app onto four more Droid devices and three Windows clients. With the exception of the Windows 7 client, the app setup was quick and simple. (Reolink Support has been very helpful trying to resolve the Windows 7 issue; however, we’ll be upgrading it to Windows 10 soon, so we anticipate the issue will go away.)
Camera quality: As compared to my previous system (which cost three times more), I am blown away by the resolution of these Reolink cameras. They’re the best! The two PTZ cameras are also very easy to operate.
Left to do: I still want to set up the audio and email feature with this system. Other than that, Reolink gets 10 gold stars. The equipment is solid. The support is solid. And the price is right. I couldn’t be happier.
