Reolink 4MP 8CH PoE video surveillance system review
PoE – Easy Setup, Even for a Beginner
A real plug and play security system, and features PoE (Power over Ethernet), with a single network cable connecting each IP camera to the NVR for power supply and video signal transmission. It comes with 59ft 8Pin network cables which save much time and cost to look for wires. It can run up to 270ft via CAT5 and 330ft via CAT6 8-pin Ethernet cable (Reolink security camera system review).
High Quality Night Vision
With infrared LED lights and improved infrared radiation for 24-hour vigilance, the 1440p cameras ensure a clear night vision, up to 100 feet long distance (depending on the environment).
Work with All Reolink PoE IP Cameras
This Reolink PoE NVR works perfectly with all our weatherproof 5MP and 4MP PoE IP cameras and WiFi cameras for 24/7 recording, motion detection alerts, live views, playback and more other features.
24/7 Recording and Monitoring
2TB HDD Pre-installed. The 2TB hard drive can be replaced up to a 4TB hard drive. Allow you to install an external hard disk drive via e-SATA for more storage (up to 4TB). Support all cameras recording at the same time (up to 8 cameras). If you want longer recording, try motion detection recording, which will trigger recording only when motion is detected (Reolink security camera system review).
Smartest Way for Alerts
The PoE camera security system detects moving objects and trigger alerts when dangers occur. Whenever a motion event is detected, the surveillance camera will trigger alerts by immediately sending alert e-mails and pushing notifications to your device.
Customize Detection Zone
You are able to customize a specific motion detection zone, focusing on the important areas, like your driveway, mailbox or backdoor, which can also help reduce the false notifications from raindrops, snowflakes dance, trees swaying in the wind, car passing by, or motion from neighbor’s homes ( Reolink security camera system review ).
Remote Access Has Never Been So Easy
With only 3 simple steps, you can use Reolink App and Client to access the camera. You can get live streaming and other control on your iOS or Android mobile device, stay informed whenever there is a thing and playback whatever happened.
How good is Reolink 4MP 8CH PoE camera?
The RLC-410 is a 4 Megapixel IP camera that you can also buy separately from Reolink. It is solidly built with a full aluminium body that is also waterproof thanks to the IP66 rating. This should let you install it in any location, even where it is exposed to the elements.
The 4MP sensor of the camera allows for video recording at a very high resolution of 2560×1440, which is excellent for identifying suspicious people or number plates. The camera’s 36 IR LEDs are powerful enough to provide good illumination. However, our advice is to always supplement it with external IR illuminators to increase the chance of a positive ID. Use IR lamps with a wavelength of 850nm to ensure because this is the wavelength it is most sensitive to ( Reolink security camera system review).
The camera comes with a 4mm lens installed which gives a viewing angle of 80 degrees. This is quite good as you want a good balance between viewing angle and images getting deformed too much.
What’s quite interesting is that these cameras can also work on a standalone basis. By this we mean that this camera can function without the NVR. It can be set up for motion detection, it can send email alerts with images or a 30 second video, it can even save images and videos to an FTP server.
How to set up the Reolink 4MP 8CH PoE video surveillance system?
The Reolink kit comes with a very good quick setup guide that shows you how to set up the NVR and connect the IP cameras. This is how setup goes:
Connect the NVR
- First connect the NVR to a computer monitor or LCD via a VGA cable (the default resolution of the HDMI port is too low and so your TV will not show a picture, you can change it later).
- Then connect each of the IP cameras to the network ports on the NVR with the included 18 metre network cables. This is where the Power over Ethernet (PoE) feature comes in. Instead of having to use separate cables for power and data, PoE lets you use just the network cable.
- Connect the NVR to your router using the short ethernet cable provided.
- Connect the supplied USB mouse to one of the USB ports of the NVR.
- Finally plug in the power adaptor of the NVR.
Mount the IP cameras
- Use the supplied mounting template to drill the holes correctly. It needs 3 mounting screws, and an allen key is provided.
- Take care that you do not point the camera against the sun.
- Also remember that at night, the infrared light from the cameras can reflect off windows and cause glare.
- Take care that the majority of a camera’s scene is not the wall it is attached to. Excess IR reflection off the walls can be an issue at night. The camera will then reduce the scene brightness to compensate leaving you with darkness in the rest of the scene.
Power up the NVR
- There is a helpful setup wizard that will guide you through the initial setup.
- The default username is admin with no password – remember to change this!
- Make sure you can see the video streams of all 4 cameras in the live view section.
- Now change the output resolution to 1080p and connect the NVR to your TV using the HDMI cable.
Install the Reolink mobile P2P app (optional)
- The Reolink mobile app is available from both the Play Store for Android and the Apple store for iPhones.
- When you start up the app, it should find your NVR.
- Next, set up a password. This should bring you to the live view screen.
- The initial setup process through the NVR’s own user interface is quite straight forward and should get you up and running quickly. Any further setup (such as initializing the hard drive) and customization can be done via the NVR user interface using the USB mouse and virtual keyboard. But using the Reolink PC client software is much easier. The Reolink PC client software connects to the NVR and allows you to configure all the options.
What is PoE security camera system?
Network systems with power-over-ethernet (PoE) use a single ethernet cable to connect camera and recorder. This cable powers the camera and transmits video at the same time. A single run of ethernet cable will provide power and video transmission up to 300 feet. If more distance is needed, a PoE switch can be used. With the help of a router, a PoE switch can minimize the wiring and extend the reach of your security installation.
A PoE switch can also expand your network system to the maximum number of supported cameras. Even with POE, the most effective system for surveillance is one that includes an NVR. NVR comes in handy in storing surveillance videos. With the use of POE ports, you can connect all your security cameras to the NVR. This would be a perfect and complete security system with guaranteed efficiency.
Simplicity
PoE security systems can save you time and money during installation. Click the ethernet cable into the NVR and the IP camera and you’re connected.
Video & Power
A PoE security system uses a single cable to power the camera and transmit video, simplifying installation and helping to keep costs low.
Flexibility
PoE security cameras can also afford you more installation options, without having to run power or pay for costly electrical work
Do you need PoE Switch?
A power-over-ethernet (PoE) switch is a device that contains multiple ethernet ports that provide power and network communications to IP cameras. This switch allows you to expand the reach and also simplify the installation of an NVR security system. Cameras plug into the switch, and (with the help of an ordinary router) just a single cable is needed to connect to the rest of your system.
