Pros & Cons – Ring floodlight cam HD security camera with built-in floodlights two-way talk and siren alarm
Pros
– Easy/straightforward install. If you can wire a light fixture, you can physically install this cam.
– Getting the cam online was simple (you have to use the Ring App).
– Setting zones was easy as well (using the app).
– I receive motion notifications within 5 to 10 seconds of motion being detected.
– The cloud app works well from my phone and is one of the more reasonably priced plans out there.
– The two way voice communication allows me to startle my wife when she comes home from work.
Cons
– The camera mount has very little range of motion… approximately 30* left, right, up or down. It worked in my install but it may not for you.
– I see no way this cam could be mounted under an eave… vertical wall only.
– A bubble level on the cam would be VERY helpful for setting the cam level with the ground (necessary for the motion sensor to work properly).
– My house has several access points all using the same SSID. The cam occasionally connects to a weaker signal of one of the other APs. (Will likely fix this by setting up an SSID just for the cam.) When it connects to that weaker signal the performance of the cam is significantly degraded.

Does Ring floodlight camera need any subscription?
As user-friendly as Ring cameras are, we knew we weren’t required to pick a subscription plan in order to use our new floodlight cam. Many other brands require this, and subscriptions do seem to be the norm in home security nowadays. But not with Ring!
However, for an added layer of security, Ring does offer two subscription plans, both of which include cloud storage and video review with sharing. That means you can view your recorded clips, download them, and share them on social media directly from the app.
Ring Protect Plan | Number of Cameras | Monthly Plan Cost | Annual Plan Cost |
---|---|---|---|
Protect Basic | 1 | $3.00 | $30.00 |
Protect Plus | Unlimited | $10.00 | $100.00 |
We already had the $3 per month Ring Protect Basic plan for our Ring Doorbell, so we had no trouble adding another $3 for our Floodlight Cam.
By way of comparison, Nest Aware subscriptions for the Nest Cam Outdoor go for $10 per month/$100 per year for 10 days of continuous video storage, and $30 per month/$300 per year for 30 days of continuous storage. The Netgear Arlo Pro offers free basic service that gives you seven days of cloud recording, and supports up to five cameras. Premier service costs $9.99 per month/$99.99 per year and gives you thirty days of cloud recording and support for up to ten cameras, while Elite service goes for $14.99 per month/$149.99 per year and offers sixty days of cloud recording with support for up to fifteen cameras.

Ring floodlight camera review 2020
Design
Despite comprising a camera and two floodlights, the Ring camera has a relatively compact mounting plate, so you’re sure to be able to get it attached to your wall with relative ease. The camera module itself is quite big and is found at the bottom of the mounting plate. It’s flanked by the floodlights which output at 3000 Kelvin, putting the beam into the “warm” lighting category, so is ideal for outdoor use. Although, if you’re a burglar, there’ll be nothing “warm” about it!
Camera
The camera is housed in an attached enclosure that measures 4.5 by 2.7 by 2.7 inches (HWD). It’s a 1080p camera with an 8X digital zoom, a 140-degree field of view, and six infrared LEDs that provide up to 30 feet of night vision. At the bottom of the enclosure is a motion detector with a 270-degree range. The floodlight is equipped with an 802.11b/g/n radio that connects to your home network on the 2.4GHz band, and has a built-in 110dB siren and a speaker and microphone array that supports two-way audio. It comes with mounting hardware, a screwdriver, and an installation guide.
LED bulbs
The Ring Floodlight Cam comes in white or black and contains two 1,500-lumen LED bulbs that have a 3,000K color temperature and are roughly equivalent to 100W incandescent floodlight bulbs. The bulbs were more than adequate for lighting up my backyard pool area
Installation
Installing Ring’s floodlight cam is similar to the procedure with most other floodlights: A metal ring screws into the junction box on the side of your house, and then the camera/light housing connects to that box. This setup method requires you to use a small s-shaped hook to temporarily hold the housing in place while you attach the wires from your house to the camera and light.
Setup
After physically connecting the Ring to your house, you must then connect the camera to your Wi-Fi network via the Ring app, specifying things such as your address and the sensitivity level of the camera. In all, setup took about half an hour. Connecting the wiring is fairly simple, but if you’re uncomfortable with electrical work, consult an electrician.
Neighborhood Watch
Want to know what’s going on in your neighborhood? The newest feature of Ring’s app lets you view security-camera footage that other Ring owners (from any Ring camera) have shared, as well as other alerts — such as fires and reported crimes — around your home. However, you don’t need to own or have purchased a Ring device to use this feature; anyone can download Ring’s app and view and report incidents.
Ring floodlight cam HD security camera with built-in floodlights two-way talk and siren alarm performance review 2020
1080p HD video
As a standard feature in most security cameras these days, we’ve seen the extraordinary images captured with 1080p HD resolution. This is most evident from Ring’s floodlight model, where we viewed refreshingly clear and crisp video 24 hours a day, rain or shine. We think you’ll appreciate the sharp image quality that Ring offers. One look at the image below and you’ll see what we mean.
Motion Detection
Ring is known for giving its users sweeping control over how their cameras detect motion, which alerts you receive, and how much data you get. While living with the camera, we watched closely to see how it reacted to different scenarios unfolding around our property. Like clockwork, when the camera detected motion, it immediately sent us an activity alert. This allowed us to open the Ring app and view a live stream of our newly illuminated backyard.
Two-Way Talk
We next decided to test out the camera’s Two-Way Talk feature, another standard in cameras in this category. When it comes to audio on the Floodlight Cam, it tends to work pretty well with one exception: we noticed a lot of interference when there was background noise on either side of the conversation. We’re not exactly sure why – but our audio gave us tons of feedback during our first test of this camera.
Ring floodlight camera customer review 2020
As good as advertised! Very pleased.
Style: Floodlight Cam Color: White
This is my second floodlight cam and I absolutely love it. I also have the Ring doorbell cam. The setup was extremely easy and it literally took me less than 15 minutes for each camera. I had an existing floodlight in each location which made the installation easier.
The installation kit had everything I needed including tools so I didn’t have to use my toolbox, hardware kit or run back and forth to the hardware store.
The setup was also extremely easy. I got connected and up and running in less than 5 minutes after installation.
The key however is a reliable internet service.
I really like the custom configuaration. I can set sensitivities, detection zones and motion schedules very easily.
I was worried about my two dogs setting off nuisance alarms in the backyard but I just set the schedule to only notify me when the dogs are indoors (evening and night) and it works perfectly.
The video is also crystal clear with the ability to zoom in on your cell phone. It works well at night even when the floodlights aren’t on because of the IR LEDs.
The coverage is also great. I have a rather large backyard and I can see almost every inch of it with adjustment of the camera.
Switching between devices on the cell phone or tablet is very easy. I can easily switch between Live views on all three devices.
The only downside is sometimes the delay you get if the internet is slow or bogged down. You definitely have to have fast and reliable internet service to make this work.
The phone app works very well. Both me and my wife have this installed on our phones and we can access the same devices st the same time with no issues.
These devices give me peace of mind when traveling or leaving my wife or kids at home. I get notices any time someone is around my home no matter where I’m traveling,
If I’m in a location with good internet service, I can access the cameras for a live view of the property.
