What is Chime Pro, what is the benefit over a standard flood light ?
Chime pro is a separate little machine that plugs in and what ever alert tone you set will be sounded when motion is detected by the camera. Mine is hooked up to both my floodlight and doorbell. 3 different tones… One for back yard… One for motion detected by doorbell camera and another for someone ringing the doorbell. Great for locations that you can’t hear/see the door… Like my lower and upper levels of the house. You can work all cameras off of one chime or put a number of chimes in the house to be alerted to motion anywhere.

Design

Despite comprising a camera and two floodlights, the Ring camera has a relatively compact mounting plate, so you’re sure to be able to get it attached to your wall with relative ease.
Below the two LED lights is a fairly large, rectangular housing that contains the camera, a speaker and microphone, and a dome-shaped motion detector on the bottom. All three parts are connected via adjustable arms to a semicircular base, which attaches to the side of your house.
The camera module itself is quite big and is found at the bottom of the mounting plate. It’s flanked by the floodlights which output at 3000 Kelvin, putting the beam into the “warm” lighting category, so is ideal for outdoor use.
2-way audio
Ring’s camera also has two-way audio, so you can talk with whomever you see on camera, as well as a 110-decibel alarm that’s loud enough to draw attention. One thing that the Ring lacks — and the Maximus has — is the ability to play prerecorded messages, as well as sounds of barking dogs, gobbling turkeys and more when the camera detects movement.

The passive infrared sensors on the Ring are more sensitive to objects, such as cars and animals, but you can adjust the settings so it’s less sensitive and only notifies you when it detects people. The main reason you’re going to get a Ring Floodlight Cam is for its motion detection. It has two-tier detection, which means it can differentiate between objects and people, just like other products, including Nest cameras

The quality is very good indeed: colours are natural and movement is smooth. The field of view is generous too, and one of the widest-angle we’ve seen on an outdoor camera. However, it only has digital zoom, so when you pinch-to-zoom in via your smartphone, the quality does take a considerable knock.

Whenever the Floodlight Cam detects motion, it will send a notification to your phone so you can immediately tap into the live view and see what’s caused it. The camera will also record a clip of the motion and save it to the cloud for you to access later through your Ring account – either through the app or on a computer.
You’ll need to pay a subscription in order to use the cloud-save feature however. If you just have the one Ring product, then you can pay £2.50/€3/$3 per month or £25/€30/$30 a year. Alternatively, if you plan on getting several Ring devices then you can pay £8/€10/$10 per month or £80/€100/$99 a year to have all of them covered.

The Ring’s camera records crisp and colorful 1080p video. It picked up the rust-red deck and fading green grass of my backyard, and I could even make out features of my dog as he bounded around.
The Ring camera also has night vision. Cameras can be set to turn on their lights when they sense motion, but only Ring’s can work in the complete dark, which is helpful for seeing things at the edge of the lights’ range.
while Ring’s camera has just a 140-degree FOV, in practice, it showed far more of my backyard. I could see the neighbors’ yards two doors down in both directions. Ring’s app lets you specify motion zones: areas in which, if it detects motion, it will alert you. In Ring’s app, you can also set schedules for when the lights and the motion detection should be active.

Highly Recommended – Best passive security day or night
I purchased 2 flood cams and both are excellent. Installation was easy and set up is also quick and easy. Make sure you have a good WIFI signal where you are installing these. The light output is excellent covering a large area with lights that can be aimed. The camera has very good picture quality both day and night with ability to zoom in on a area. The camera covers a large area where I can see almost 180 degrees left to right and 90 degrees down it’s mounting surface. It has excellent coverage. The alarm light and sound are just OK not loud or attention grabbing. It also has a microphone and speaker so you can listen and talk through the light.
You must have a smart phone with this light and are able to set parameters for motion, sensitivity and time the light remains on. There are many parts of the system you can control or use to monitor connection/signal to WIFI which is helpful when setting up the flood cam. The app is a little difficult to understand at first so just play with it until you can find all the controls.
I recommend getting the video archive service, it is cheap and will give you piece of mind knowing that you have video if ever needed. I also found the system sends all monitoring and alerts to your phone this was good when we were on vacation.
Large variation, depending on location
I purchased this strictly for use as a wi-fi extender for use with my new Ring Stick Up Camera. I do not use it for a chime, or for the built-in night light.
It’s easy and convenient to use. You simply plug it into a wall socket. Once it has been setup, there’s no more to it. It seems to work well; however, be aware that performance is very dependent on where it is located.
The Ring Stick Up Camera signal strength without using the Chime Pro was running about -72 (very weak). Using the Chime Pro as a wi-fi booster for the camera, signal strength improved to -46 (much stronger signal -signal strength is expressed in negative numbers, so closer to zero is better). So it did what I wanted it to do there.
However, I had to try 3 different locations in the house to get that signal level improvement. Since I’m using it only as a wi-fi extender and not using the chime or the night light, I had hoped to be able to place it in an out of the way, out of sight location. Didn’t work out that way. But that’s not a huge deal overall.
The only other issues was that, for whatever reason, I could not get it to setup initially. I ended up having to call the help desk, and was on the phone with them for almost an hour as we tried to work through different solutions to get it to setup. We finally got it going, and it has been working with no issues ever since (about 1 week now).
Controls for it are all in the app. The only button on the device is a reset button. I have mine setup through the app to not chime and not turn on the night light. Note that the wi-fi extension function is only for Ring devices; it will not work as a wi-fi extender for other devices.

Step 1 – Mount the Floodlight Cam Bracket

Step 2 – Wiring and labelling

Step 3 – Attach the Floodlight Cam
- Use the included hook to attach Floodlight Cam to your junction box by inserting one end through the mounting hole on your Floodlight Cam and the other end onto the mounting bracket.
Step 4 – Complete Wiring with Floodlight Cam
- Take the copper ground wire from your Floodlight Cam and loop it around the green ground nut on the Floodlight Cam bracket.
- Connect the copper ground wire to end of the green or copper ground wire coming out of your junction box with a wire nut.
- Note – Using a wire nut: Wrap the wires you want to connect together, then put the ends inside the wire nut and twist clockwise until secure.
- Connect the black wire from your junction box to the black wire on Floodlight Cam using another wire nut.
- Connect the white wire from your junction box to the white wire on Floodlight Cam.
- Safety Note: If your junction box doesn’t have clearly colored black and white wires, then consult with a licensed electrician.
