Vankyo MatrixPad S10 10 inch tablet customer review
Great tablet holds up after 2 drops on tile
So I wanted a new tablet for my kids because I was tired of all the shouting over the iPad. I’ve never had an android based tablet, so, (full disclosure) I know nothing about them. What I did know, however, was that there was no way I was paying the price of another iPad. My friend bought this one for her son so I decided to give it a try as well.
I have no idea what I was thinking, but it didn’t even occur to me to buy a cover or any type of protective sleeve- duh. So after I charged it up and set it up with my email address, as I was handing it to my son, I look at this beautiful, slim, sleek new tablet, and I realize my blunder. I say to him- as all mothers do- “Pleeeeaaasssee be careful with this. Take it right to the couch and sit down.” I kid you not- the child takes one step and DROPS IT ON THE TILE FLOOR! I swallow my screams, quickly swipe it up off of the floor, and to my absolute shock: there was no damage. No cracked screen. No problem turning on. The kids used it for a bit and seemed very happy.
A few days later, completely forgetting about this incident and obviously not having purchased any kind of protective coating, because, have you forgotten, I’m a mom and I have a thousand other things to clean up or prevent from breaking, the kids ask to use the new tablet. “Sure, but seriously this time- don’t drop it”. Now- this is where this completely true and not at all embellished story starts to sound like fiction, but I SWEAR to you- I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. I will let you guess the number of steps this child takes before he drops it for a SECOND TIME on the TILE FLOOR. I’m not sure which part of this story is less believable: the two drops of the tablet, or the two times that the tablet acquired no damage from this completely undeserved mistreatment by some random kid, but on my honor- the tablet survived yet again.
I’ve used this miracle of engineering a few times, and my kids continue to beg for it daily (In fact the drawer of the short straw gets the ipad). As I said before I know nothing about Android devices, but it seems easy enough and the kids think it works great. What I do know, is that I am not interested in finding out what happens with a 3rd drop on the tile floor. I will now be purchasing some protective coating.
