What is worth in Victorian Celluloid photo album? The album is special because it has a red-and-gold plush velvet frame and an easel form. The celluloid chromolithograph portrait has applied gilt ornamentation at the raised crest, the drawer below, and the scrolled feet. Collectors treasure photos related to historical events, portraits, or those done by well-known artists.
What is best the Victorian Celluloid photo album?
Large Victorian Photo Album with Embossed Leather Brass Buckle
A magnificent Victorian album with embossed leather cover and brass buckle. There are 8 sheets for a total of 16 lined pages. The album measures: 9.8 x 11.8 x 2.3 inches (25 x 30 x 6 cm). Each page is 0.2 inches thick (6 mm). Weight: 2.3 Kg.
Both outer covers are covered in thick leather, the front cover is embossed and gilt. The lateral binding is also embossed. The edges of the pages are gilt on all 3 sides. The inner covers are covered in a beautiful turquoise floral design paper, also gilt.
The album closes with a functioning metal clasp.
Inside, the very thick and gilded pages are covered with a beautiful green fabric: the different layers are used as “pockets” to insert cabinet photos, letters, postcards or other ephemera.
In very good antique condition. Still excellent binding, strong and structurally secure. The clasp is in perfect working condition. Some light wear to the spine and corners of the cover which in my opinion only adds to its beauty and authenticity.
Late Victorian Clam Shell Photo Album With Celluloid Oak
This album sits flat on a table and opens up revealing multiple pages of photo frames perfect for filling with photos of your loved ones. The interior pages are beautifully decorated with a clam shell pattern and alternate between square and oval frames.
The shape of the album, a clam shell, illustrates the Victorians love for conchology. The oak branch and beetle, their love for nature, botany and entomology.
Of course the most striking element of this album is the beautiful celluloid oak branch featuring three acorns nestled within the leaves. There is a sweet little beetle reaching for a leaf sitting a top a wooden plaque framing the word “Album.”
The exterior is fashioned out of what used to be a plush velvet but most of the flocking has rubbed off leaving the woven backing. The fabric is stuffed with possibly cotton, similarly to how they used to finish chairs, giving the album almost a pillow-like quality. The album has a heavy duty brass closure.
Most of the velvet flocking has rubbed off the album with only a small patch remaining on the back. There are multiple breaks in the fabric revealing the cotton stuffing primarily along the edges. The fabric near the binding has split all the way across. It appears one small edge of one of the celluloid oak leaves has broken off.
Victorian Photo Album Woman In Boat Celluloid Blue Velvet Back
The cover design is really lovely and it is so good to have intact celluloid. The spine and back are floral velvet. The celluloid album measures 9 inches high by 12 inches wide when closed by 2.5 inches thick. The front features an embossed frame featuring a romantic picture of a woman in a boat with flowers.
This is an antique celluloid photo album with a celluloid front and velvet back cover dating to 1880-1910.
There are 14 double sided cardboard pages with floral and swag design, some with 2 openings each and some with 3. There are 3 cabinet photos still in the album. The album is in very good used vintage condition with intact celluloid cover but does have a few holes in the velvet on the back.
The only marks are on a plate of the clasp and list various patent numbers ending with one dating to 1904. The album has an incorporated metal stand on the back.
Several of the pages have minor tears where the photos are put in or have been taken out and one page has been creased and bent. Part of the clasp has been replaced at some time.
VICTORIAN MUSICAL CELLULOID PHOTO ALBUM
Its dimension is H 4″ x W 13″ x D 10.5″. Music mechanism plays. Otherwise in fair antique condition, with evidence of water and mildew damage to cloth cover; fading, small cracks and scratches to celluloid lid; age toning and some tears to cardstock photo sleeves, age toning to antique photographs.
It is a rare Victorian musical photo album with (4) family photos, one dated 1882; the rest of the album unfilled. Label underneath lists the two airs played: “Florodora, Tell Me Pretty Maiden” and “Mystery of Love Waltz”.
Antique Victorian Celluloid Photo Album Roping Cowgirl
The image is surrounded with embossed flowers on the front cover. There are signs of wear on the cover especially noted on the bottom left corner and along the edges. This is a beautiful antique Victorian celluloid photo album depicting a turn of the century cowgirl swinging her rope high above her head while another smaller mounted cowgirl ropes a steer in the background.
It would make a cherished gift for any lover of western decor and collectibles. The pages inside are in good condition with a lovely art nouveau floral design around each opening where one would insert one’s photograph.
The album closes with an ornate metal latch. It displays wonderfully and looks absolutely striking when displayed with the matching celluloid collar box.
