Reolink 4K PoE CCTV home security camera system review
Built & design
The 8MP security cameras are rated IP66. This ensures for safe outdoor installations. Built from a solid unibody metal housing, your security cameras allow for durability while still maintaining a lightweight design. The high-grade aluminum body protects it from the harshest of weather.
Mounting & setup
Set up was easy, POE cameras were recognized by the DRV without user intervention. The 8 megapixel looks great on our HD 4K TV using the HDMI cable supplied. Two of the cameras were mounted outside and have survived 100 and 0 degree temperatures. Remote access using the Android app and the PC client work well when we are away from home. Email and message features work as expected for alarms, the apps allowing real time and historical views as well as configuration. Daytime vision is impressive, nighttime vision is good.
The cameras come with 60 foot cables which were not long enough so we purchased ethernet extender connectors and 25 foot cables from the hardware store. I was concerned before purchasing the cameras that because I was mounting them on a sloping surface that the image would be at an angle. No problem, the camera mount uses a Ball and socket system which made it easy to correct to the right angle. NVR and Camera user manuals can be downloaded from the Reolink website if you need more detail.
Software and added features
The software on the NVR is decent. I have not figured out to zoom on archived images, but the zoom works well on live, letting me see license plate numbers from 100 feet away.
Whenever a moving objects is detected, Reolink surveillance camera will trigger alerts by immediately sending alert e-mails(The email includes a photo or a 30s video clip) and pushing notifications to your device. Upon getting the real-time motion alerts, you can always know about various emergencies and incidents.
To minimize the false motion triggers from raindrops, snowflakes, trees swaying in the wind, car passing by, you can customize a motion detection zones. Only moving object that enters a specific area will be detected and an alarm will be triggered. A lot of false alarms will be filter out.
Storage
The NVR works perfectly and efficiently with the cameras for round-the-clock monitoring and recording for your home & business security and surveillance. With the pre-installed 2TB security grade hard drive, it can save about 5 days videos of 4 cameras at 8MP resolution. The NVR supports up to 8TB hard drive at most, you can expand the storage by adding more HDD via e-SATA port.
Downsides – Reolink 4K PoE CCTV home security camera system
My only complaint is that in the summer spiders like to build a web across the camera lens and in the winter that is right where icicles want to form, but neither of these is a fault of Reolink. I would recommend this camera system if you can figure a way to install the ethernet cables.
