Customer review on Ring Alarm Quality
Brilliant system great quality packed with features
Style Name: Ring Alarm Configuration: 5 Piece Kit
This is a fantastic piece of kit, I have been integrating smart tech into my house over the last several years on a modest budget and it seemed right to include an intruder alarm and one that works with Amazon Alexa too. I have set a total budget of £1500 which will be done over the next 12 months with a view that this includes Alexa devicesand other accessories. Whilst I did not purchase my initial Ring items through Amazon I am sure like most of my products future purchases will be. Especially as the prices are very competitive.
I will revise my review overtime with pictures and updates reflecting future purchases.
I am a novice, this will be my first install only using an engineer to install the Ring door bell. My first impressions are good, the products are well packaged and look great and feel very sturdy. The instructions are very easy to follow and include everything you will need. The base Station will need to be wall mounted using the included fittings. The keypad is light enough to be placed using double sided tape I used Gorilla tape or you can choose to drill with the provided fittings. All the sensors can be placed with the provided 3M stickers.
The base station runs of the mains but has a internal 24hr battery back up plus in the case of network outage will switch and run of 3G until your main provider resumes service. They keypad only requires a charge every few months I suspect like the doorbell Ring will notify you when this is required if not you can see the charge status via the app in settings. All the sensors run of battery after several months all my sensors are still showing near to full battery so I do not think these will need changing very often.
The app is straight forward with updates adding new features and increased security. You will be setup in no time at all you can add multiple users and from what i can tell up to three individuals to be alerted in the event an alarm is triggered. This includes a call by Ring to your mobile. All your Ring devices will send you the relevant notifications as per your desired settings. This works seamlessly with Amazon Alexa too just remember to enable the ring skill and link your accounts Alexa discovered my Alarm devices with no problems, I then placed these into a new Home alarm group. Using Alexa and voice commands you will have full control over the alarm for example
“Alexa arm ring alarm home mode”
“Alexa arm ring alarm away mode”
“Alexa disarm alarm”
(You will then be prompted for your code)
“Alexa show me front door camera”
(Use the respective names you set for your camera locations)
You can also use the app to set the relevant mode for your alarm too, or you can just do it old school and punch in your code and set or disarm that way. Not to worry only people you have invited as additional users will have access to your Alarm and some device settings. Full access reserved for the main user. The app lets you add upto three shared users as well as the main user and you can add guest users which I think is brilliant for holidays or times when you have a friend or family member looking after your property. Its worth mentioning the main user can decide which devices other users will have access too.
From the app you can tweak your settings from motion sensitivity, recording options, you can do things like link your devices so they will record an event if one device senses something. You can also set the time delay for how long you have to enter your code when a sensor is triggered.
WiFi and connectivity has been flawless over the last several months my Network went down once and Ring switched to its backup 3G Network restoring to the main network with no issues. If you have a smartwatch Ring will send you notifications to this device as well as your phone. A real plus is to purchase the Ring chime pro as this will give you another network that I found very useful in improving both the Doorbell and my Outside camera performance. You can play around to see which Network is best for each device via the Ring app.
I intend to integrate Ring Elite indoor cameras to cover the two entrances to my property and I will add an external Ring camera with Solar panel. I am impressed with the provided Ring security window stickers(Several included in different languages). I will be purchasing a lamina-tor so I can create some larger signs. I believe an extra Ring battery and a USB Hub that can charge multiple devices will be a must to. I will be placing several Echo Show 8’s around my property enabling access to the camera feeds and finally Mr Beams security lights.
I have tried a tamper test on the sensors and the Alarm was set of instantly so far I have tried everything I can think of. I feel much happier and safer already I think Ring have done a superb job.
The subscription service is a must especially if like me you intend to have multiple devices and at only £8 pcm this is a real bargain and possibly one of if not the cheapest as that will cover all your devices plus 30 days cloud storage. I have Logitech Circle two cameras covering the front and back of my house and there subscription is £17.99 pcm so once I move my whole system over it will pay for itself by the monthly saving I make on the Ring subscription.
Ring has good forums if you require help resolving issues. I have used these twice so far to get a fix for reattaching the keypad to my base unit after it was locked because a member of the family entered the code incorrectly several times. I also pulled the tab on a sensor too early so It was not being recognised.
The keypad fix requires you to reset via the pinhole on the back and then using the app you have to manually add the device.
The pulled tab on the sensor requires you too remove the covering and battery then reinsert following the app instructions as usual for additional devices.
The various cameras external and internal have worked flawlessly. Personally I am impressed with the picture quality in both day and night mode with good zoom capabilities maintaining good picture quality. You have the ability for two way communication and remember if you pay the monthly subscription you get 30 days cloud storage. There are various settings and tweaks that can be made I love that along with the usual notifications you can link this to your chimes when motion is detected. Another great feature is the Siren you can activate via your app I can see that being useful when used as a deterrence to suspicious activities viewed in and outside. The connection time to switch on Live view like the Ring Doorbell is very quick I have also used the two way communication via the cameras and the ring door bell and have found the delay times to be very slight(((The key off course is your network))) I am on sky Q Max here running at a average upload speed of 15 Mbps and download speed of 63 Mbps this was verified separate from the test available Sky give which would suggest 80 Mbps and does not show you the upload speed. I am pleased to say that the Ring Solar Panel has kept my external camera fully charged off course once Winter is here this maybe a different case.

Everyone’s set up will be different spending less or more. If I had to choose one item it would definatley be the Ring Intruder Alarm kit and will certainly be recommending that to all my friends and family. I would also recommend adding on the Ring door bell 2 with Pro chime kit. Everything else you can add at your own leisure. God Bless everyone.
Do other brands offer competitive deal?
Ring Alarm vs. Nest Secure
Ring Alarm and Nest Secure are both DIY systems. The main difference is that Nest Secure is primarily designed to integrate tightly with a Nest smart thermostat or other Nest home automation products. If you already have these in your home, Nest might be a good option. However, Nest’s home security devices, sensors and other products, like cameras, smoke detectors and smart door locks, are rather expensive. In addition, Nest doesn’t offer a glass-break sensor or a detached remote panic button. Both companies offer month-to-month plans that you can opt out of, and Nest offers professional installation.
Ring Alarm vs. SimpliSafe
Ring Alarm is an entry-level DIY home security system that might be a good choice if your needs are relatively basic. Although it doesn’t have as large a selection of security and home automation devices as many of its competitors, Ring Alarm’s $10 monthly fee for professional monitoring is among the lowest available. So if professional monitoring is important to you and you want to save money, consider Ring. By contrast, SimpliSafe charges $24.99 per month for professional monitoring if you want a full suite of remote features. Both systems are DIY with comparably easy installation (SimpliSafe offers professional installation), and both companies offer month-to-month plans that you can cancel at any time.
