Design
The EufyCam E comes in a bundle that includes three white-and-gray cameras, a HomeBase hub, two magnetic mounts, two screw-in mounts, mounting screws, and a USB charging cable. At 2.2 by 2.2 by 4.2 inches (HWD), the cameras are longer than the Arlo Pro 2 cameras (3.1 by 1.9 by 2.8 inches) but have the same round magnetic back panel for easy mounting. They have an IP67 rating that protects them from jets of water, dirt, and dust.
The eufyCam E system includes a hub which constitutes the base station through which communications take place and 2 wireless cameras.
The HomeBase hub measures 5.1 by 5.0 by 2.7 inches and uses RF and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radios to provide a wireless range of up to 300 feet. The top of the HomeBase has a Sync button that’s used for pairing the base to the cameras during setup and doubles as an Alarm Off button. Around back is a LAN port, a USB charging port, a power jack, a reset button, and a microSD card slot complete with an included 16GB microSD card for storing recorded video.
The base station (HomeBase) is equipped with a siren capable of emitting an alarm sound at 100 dB and can be connected via ethernet cable to our home router. A first interesting feature is the possibility of connecting the hub to the router via wireless connection in order to position them at a great distance between them.
The HomeBase has a simple rectangular design and is very light and small in size. On the back there are: a “sync” button to pair the IP cameras separately, a power connector, a USB port, an ethernet port and the microSD slot.
A 16GB microSD is already included which, by calculating 10 recordings of 30 seconds per day, allows you to keep the videos of two security cameras for 6 months.
How to mount the eufy security by Anker eufyCam E wireless home security camera system?
The whole set-up process took about an hour, which wasn’t long considering I was setting up a full home security system.
To first install the mounting hardware, you’ll need a drill and Phillips head screwdriver. I connected the Eufy Security home base to my Wi-Fi, then installed the eufy Security app and upgraded the firmware. The app then guided me in finding a mounting location with sufficient signal strength. I chose to install one camera inside my house facing my front door and the other outside facing my back door.
Once a good mounting location was identified, I drilled holes for the mounting hardware and secured it with the included screws. There are a variety of mounting options depending on whether your camera is indoors or out. The indoor mount relies on a strong magnet, while the outdoor mount screws into the camera for an extra strong fit. The wireless capability here was really handy, as it meant I didn’t have to deal with threading cords through my house.
Once the mounts and cameras were in place, I installed the entry sensor. I only received one, but the kit comes with two so I contacted customer service and got a second. Nonetheless, installation of the sensor took me all of five minutes, and I chose to put it on my front door. You simply remove the adhesive backing on the magnet and sensor, and install one piece on the door frame and the other on the edge of the door so it’s less than 1.6 inches away when the door is closed. Once everything is in place, you can set schedules or vacation modes accordingly.
Configuration and App
The setup of the whole system takes little time and has impressed us favorably for the extreme simplicity of configuration, which make this product affordable for everyone. Currently, the only system to configure it is the use of the eufy Security App for iOS (iPhone, iPad) or Android but once the application is installed and an account is created to manage the profile, simply follow the instructions step by step:
- Connect the HomeBase to the router via the included ethernet cable. We can also decide to connect the hub to the router via wifi later.
- Update the firmware of the eufyCam HomeBase if requested automatically
- Choose the devices to add to your security system and keep the sync button pressed for a few seconds on these devices (in our case the cameras)
The IP cameras are independent from each other and it is possible to assign a name and set preferences for recording / detecting movement between “Optimal battery life”, “Optimum surveillance” or customization.
The interesting thing is to prepare and use the global operating modes and then switch from one mode to another by starting the App and choosing the “Security” tab.
For example, you can decide to disable the motion sensor when you are in “home mode” and activate the recording and alarm in “away from home” mode.

The 1080p video quality is excellent too. Rather than people appearing as a blurry blobs, I can easily make out the facial expressions on people. Even when the camera was relying on night vision, the images were clear.
You can also access clips of your videos everywhere via the app on your phone and receive alerts when motion is detected even when you’re on vacation. This got a little annoying initially because the back door camera was triggered by squirrels, wind shaking bushes, and sometimes, virtually nothing. Fortunately, you can adjust the motion sensitivity along a 100-point scale. I dropped it down to 51, and now, it only catches people and cars that pull into our driveway.
There’s also a cool two-way audio feature, which I had fun using to scare my family. If I saw my wife pull into the driveway, I’d quickly hop on the app and start talking as she stepped up to our back door. She was more startled than amused by my hijinks. But in all seriousness, I found that the two-way audio is sensitive enough to pick up quiet sounds and of course, loud enough for my unsuspecting victims to be startled.
I tested the security system during the winter and spring in Michigan. During these seasons, we had extremely low temperatures, ice storms, heavy snowfall, strong winds, and torrential rain. None of the elements seemed to faze the eufyCam. No matter the weather, I still captured clear videos.
I’m also thoroughly impressed by the facial recognition capabilities. When the camera records a video clip, the app displays images of any faces that were in the video so you can quickly see if there is a reason to watch it. I can also store the faces in the app and get an alert when the camera detects a face it doesn’t recognize, like a new mailman or maintenance guy.
One of the things I like-but-also-don’t is the entry sensor. I like that you can set schedules depending on your work day or even if you’re on vacation, and receive push notifications when an alarm is triggered. Usually, I’ll set our alarm to go off if the front door is opened between midnight and 6 a.m. But sometimes, my wife and I will go for late-night walks and the alarm always startles us when we get back. Fortunately, you just go to the home base to turn it off — and hey, at least this means the system is working.

Eufycam E – steadily improving
Purchased this one to replace an Arlo Pro. Set up is very easy and I was able to get both cameras online very quickly. However, motion detection is slow and the delay in recording will often miss the face of the person who is approaching. Also, the distance at which the camera can see at night is very limited which is very disappointing considering that the Arlo did a great job at seeing at night. Finally, I am disappointed by the customization options for setting off the camera. If I use a schedule, I am only able to disable the audio alarm from just triggering a push notification to my phone. This option is available when setting the Home or Away Settings in the system. More flexibility would be appreciated.
In the end, I may be returning the unit. A years battery isn’t worth missing a potential intrusion into your home.
Update – Eufy has regularly updated the cameras and now the system works much better. They still have a ways to go, but their efforts in getting better are appreciated. The camera now reacts to motion quicker albeit with the occasional false alarm.
Eufy support has been phenomenal, which is one of the reasons that I keep coming back to them. An upcoming homebase will include face and pet detection in the cams, even though it’s still a work in progress. Their engineers have been working with me to solve any issues I may have had and I must say they continue to amaze me in their willingness to go to lengths to satisfy their customer.
